ENVIRONMENT, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Prisca Mupfumira says she is excited by the 350 Chinese tourists who will arrive into the country tomorrow afternoon under the Tour Africa-The New Horizon Tourism Project.
The project which is going to run for about 5 years was birthed on 6th of April 2018 when Ministry of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry and Touchroad International Holdings Group entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to facilitate investment and tourism promotion between Zimbabwe and China.
Speaking at a press conference Minister Mupfumira said she is excited by project prospects of attracting about 10 000 Chinese tourists as well as helping meeting the target to increase the number of arrivals from China earlier than projected.
“This mega visit is very special in the history of tourism between Zimbabwe and China as we have not received such a big group before. We are ready and committed to do everything possible to make the stay of our visitors with us memorable one.
“We are happy to note that our cooperation with Touchroad International Holdings Group has contributed to the growth of our tourism as arrivals in Zimbabwe have shown great increase from a modest 14 407 arrivals in 2017 to 19 428 in 2018,” she said.
The Chinese tourists’ delegation will visit Victoria Falls and Great Zimbabwe among many other attraction centres in the country.
According to the minister, among the delegation are some business people who are going to take the opportunity to scout for investment opportunities in the country.
Tourism has been arguably one of the economic top performers in the country and its contribution to the gross domestic product is also on the rise since the coming in of the new dispensation in November 2017.
