Catholic Youths urged to be ambassadors

ENVIRONMENT, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Prisca Mupfumira has told a delegation of Catholic youth which is going to Panama for the World Youth Day that they are also ambassadors for the country.

About 135 youth from the Catholic Church will represent Zimbabwe in Panama from 14th to the 28th of January.

Speaking at the Mega Pilgrim Send-off dinner where she was the guest of honour, Minister Mupfumira urged the youth to be worthy ambassadors adding that visitors come to Zimbabwe because of its people and culture.

“Tourists visit Zimbabwe because of its number one wonder that is the people of Zimbabwe, our culture and our pristine wildlife.

“This is why Zimbabwe has been highly ranked as a must visit destination in 2019 by Lonely Planet and National Geographic,” she said.

Zimbabwe which is looking at increasing the number of arrivals is using every opportunity to put out a good word out-there in the hope of attracting potential tourists.

Tourism has been identified by the new dispensation as one of the key pillars of economic revival in the country alongside agriculture, mining, and manufacturing.

According to economic experts, tourism is also one of the country’s low hanging fruits with quick wins if adequately funded and marketed.

Ministry of Tourism and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority together with other industry players have gone around the world trying to market the country’s various tourism destinations.

To add icing to the cake, Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube has weighed in with a bit of budgetary support for marketing and branding purposes.
