The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture has indicated that it is happy with the current progress at the National Sports Stadium, which is being renovated to meet Confederation of African Football (CAF) requirements.
Speaking to the media during a fact-finding visit, Committee Chairperson Farai Jere said work on the stadium will see it surpass the CAF standards, becoming a modern facility.
‘’Our President is walking the talk, as you can see here, the targets of our minister he is meeting it, and we are very happy, and very grateful to the government of Zimbabwe with the way things are happening here.
‘’This property has not be brought to the CAF standards, but has been modernised. I think you have seen some of the things in the dressing rooms, everything is working you just press the button, you can actually see its worldclass, it has been modernised to the level that you cannot imagine,’’ he said.

Honourable Jere added that the National Sports Stadium is going host the first match on the 25th of May, and about 25 000 fans will be allowed to enter.
The National Sports Stadium which was constructed in the early 80s is arguably the biggest sports stadium in Zimbabwe both in terms of holding capacity and even structure size.
At its peak, it used to host the Warriors games, CAF club games and even local matches where it was the home ground for Caps United.
Honourable Jere, applauded the ministry for working hard to ensure the stadium is brought back to life.
‘’Thank you very much Permanent Secretary and your team, you are working very hard. We are very excited with what we have seen, we are very happy as honourable members, the target has been met.
‘’You can actually see what is happening this is what we see at 3pm in Europe, (the sprinklers) when games are about to start, its swagger, you just open the water before the match and you see the adrenalin.
‘’For those who were doubting the works which are being done the second republic here is the evidence which you are seeing here at this facility, we are very happy,’’ he said.
