Why its impossible to get enough of Victoria Falls

By Daniel Chigundu

VICTORIA Falls is a tourist attraction like no other as it is said to be wider and twice the height of the Niagra Falls in America, making it the world’s biggest water curtain.

It is also one of the Seven Wonders of the World and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The reason tourists can never get enough of the Victoria Falls is that it offers about 16 exciting viewing sites all offering different experiences of the falls.

However, viewing point number 8 gives the main view, while points 9 to 11 give the most rain courtesy of the small droplets from the falling water which rises and condense and fall in a manner like that of a rain and turning the area into a typical rainforest.

These rains which fall 24/7 support the surrounding vegetation to remain green forming what is often referred to as the Victoria Falls Rainforest.

Although the Victoria Falls has always been there, it is, however, David Livingstone who popularised it after his discovery in 1855 and named it after Queen Victoria.

The locals knew it before David Livingstone and called it as the “Mosi oa-Tunya” the smoke that thunders.

After watching the Victoria Falls from all the 16 viewing points which are about three kilometres to and fro, tourists can rest and eat-out a snack at the Rainforest café situated right at the entrance.
