ZIMBABWE Tourism Authority (ZTA) says the decision to honour the later former Vice President Dr Joshua Nkomo through heritage trails is part of the new dispensation’s thinking.
Dr Nkomo who was popularly known as “father Zimbabwe became the country’s Vice President from 1987 up to the time of his death in 1999 and was known for being a unifier.
Before the launch of the heritage trails, people marched from Blue Lagoon, pasted through Stanley Hall up to the Dr Nkomo’s statue in Bulawayo’s central business district.
Speaking on the sidelines of the march, ZTA chief executive Dr Kaseke he was hopeful that the heritage trails will go a long way in bringing peace in the country.
“This going to be an addition to the country’s tourism product, so this is an issue that we initiated it’s not something that was given to us so we think it’s going to be a very good thing for Zimbabwe.
“I think it also brings peace to the nation when people are remembering their heroes like Dr Nkomo who was a unifier,” he said.
Dr Kaseke added that since we are coming from the old dispensation they are not doing things exactly the opposite of how they were done during but are in certain cases going to be reviving certain things that were being neglected.
He said the new government represents a new thinking and a new way of doing things as opposed to the old.
“This is a new dispensation led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and this is a new thinking by the government it reflects the new government, it’s a departure from the old,
“I don’t know what the old government could have said about this is a new government, new thinking, the old did not think about it (heritage trails), so the new dispensation thought about it.
