THE 2018 edition of World Tourism Day Celebrations is set to be held in the resort town of Victoria Falls, a Cabinet Minister has said.
World Tourism Day is celebrated internationally every year in line with UNWTO guidelines.
Speaking recently, Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Prisca Mupfumira said the theme for this year provides solutions to challenges faced in trying to grow the sector.
“On the 27th of September 2018, Zimbabwe will join the rest of the world in commemorating the World Tourism Day.
“The theme for this year ‘Tourism and the Digital Transformation’ which seeks to emphasise on the opportunities provided to tourism, by technological advances including big data, artificial intelligence and digital platforms, on the map of sustainable development,” she said.
Minister Mupfumira added that “in line with the guidance of the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) the government sees digital advances and innovation as part of the solution to the challenge of marrying continued growth with a more sustainable and responsible tourism sector.
The day seeks among other things to address global challenges outlined in the sustainable development goals and to highlight the contribution the tourism industry can make in reaching these goals.
