PAMWECapital Partners (PCP) says it has lined up various investment proposals in the tourism, agriculture, transport and energy sector and is seeking government approval to implement them.
Since the coming in of the new dispensation on 24 November 2017, Zimbabwe has made it clear that it will be seeking investors from every country.
The President Emmerson Mnangagwa and various ministers including the Minister of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Prisca Mupfumira have globe-trotted inviting potential investors in an effort to resuscitate the hard pressed economy.
This has seen a few potential investors especially in the tourism sector coming to explore opportunities in the country.
Government has already designated some parts of the country as Special Economic Zones for certain key sectors of the economy.
Pamwe Capital Partners Cleopas Sanangura told delegates during a breakfast meeting hosted by his organisation and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), that they seeking approvals to implement their various investment opportunities in Victoria Falls.
“Minister this is what we have come here to ask you for number one is an approval to host an air-show were we are expecting about 10 000 tourists and about 100 exhibitors.
“Victoria Falls is a tourism hub what is needed is that we need to congest its airport with planes but we need to make sure that it makes business sense hence we are talking about the hub,” he said.
Sanangura also revealed that they are keen to build a Sunny City type of resort in Victoria Falls with a 7-Star hotel and other exciting facilities.
“I heard that there is land designated for a Disney type of a project, we are saying we would want to take over that project as we want to build the Sunny City type for those who have been to Sunny City you know what it looks like.
“But ours will be a 7-Star hotel and there will be 2 golf courses this is what we are here for so we will be waiting to hear your approval. If that project for the resort is approved and it’s in operation we believe that it could be a game-changer in the whole country in terms of tourism,” he said.
Speaking at the same occasion Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Prisca Mupfumira said the country is open to investment but will only entertain serious investors and not chancers who want to take advantage of the country’s recently found good standing.
“The Air-show you are talking about sounds exciting but we need to see the documents on paper and go through them and make informed decisions, the presentation makes it easier for us to comprehend what you are trying to achieve.
“As far as investment is concerned in Victoria Falls area and the rest of Zimbabwe, we have a mandate as the government to make sure we facilitate development, investment in all tourism areas and in particular that area (designated area).
“It’s on a first come first serve, we have been given the land as the ministry for potential serious investors we have relaxed tax regime for that particular area the Special Economic Zone we are all ready to go and I think it’s a matter of how serious you are but we are ready to go,” she said.
Minister Mupfumira added that the country has been receiving a lot of interest but is only open to serious investors and not chancers.
There are lot of people who have expressed interest , there was an expression of interest just last week for development in Harare Lake Chivero, Tokwe-Mukosi, Victoria Falls we are open for business that all I can say but we want serious investors no time wasters or chancers.
She said Zimbabwe has been ranked among the best 3 must visit tourists destination in the world and her ministry is going to work to make sure it remains the best.
“We want to make sure in 2019 and 2020 we are number one because we have got what it takes to be number culture, people, we have them here, pristine wild animals which you cannot find anywhere, real animals we have them here, we have the beautiful weather, we have world heritage, so the product is there.
“…All we need to do is to market it yes we know in the middle east we have not done much marketing and China we haven’t done a lot of marketing but this is our thrust now to marketing and position Zimbabwe,” said Mupfumira.
Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement Minister Perence Shiri who was guest of honour said government was looking forward to discussing the proposals as presented.
“The government recognises tourism, agriculture and manufacturing industries as key economic sectors with the potential to increasingly contribute to the national economic turnaround of Zimbabwe.
“Tourism growth in this country is definitely volcanic in nature and like His Excellency the President of the republic of Zimbabwe said, Zimbabwe is ready for the volcanic eruption.
“On behalf of the government we would like to applaud Pamwe Capital Partners for taking the initiative to explore opportunities in different sectors of our economy.
“We look forward to discussing with you investment opportunities in areas highlighted throughout your presentations,” he said. Pamwe Capital Partners is seeking approval to host an Air-Show, agreement for land in Victoria Falls, Casino licence within that resort, approval for the farm-grower scheme and assurance for repatriation of investments and dividends among other things.
