Rwodzi meets Gokwe tourism players ahead of a Gweru indaba

Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Deputy Minister Barbara Rwodzi has met with the tourism business community in Gokwe South today.

The move to meet with the players in the industry is part of efforts by the government to strengthen ties and relations with the private sector as it positions towards the attainment of a US$5 billion tourism economy by 2025.

Gokwe South is endowed with heritage and cultural sites, wildlife and boasts of Chirisa Safari, Gandavaroyi Gorge, Dzoritsvo Falls, Hliziyana Falls, Sengwa Gorge and the magnificent Bopoma Falls.

According to the Ministry, the Deputy Minister is on a tour of the Midlands Province as a precursor to Environment and Tourism Indaba to be held in Gweru tomorrow, 21 April 2022.

Tourism is one of the key economic pillars for the Second Republic together with mining and agriculture.

Various measures and efforts have been put in place to help the tourism sector get to its feet following almost two years of stagnation due to COVID-19.

COVID-19 resulted in closing down of airspaces and tourism facilities as countries battled to minimise the spread of the virus in line with World Health Organisation recommendations.

Zimbabwe’s tourism industry is expected to rise following the relaxation of travel requirements by the government and revision of COVID-19 regulations.
