MINISTRY of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry is expected to host a forum on environmental sustainability next week.
The forum which is expected to coincide with World Environment Day is scheduled to run from the 5th to the 6th of June at the Harare International Conference Centre in Harare.
The Environment Forum will run under the theme; “Dialogue for Environmental Sustainability” and President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to be the guest of honour.
Environmental issues have become topical globally in the light of climate change effects which are threatening food security and human existence on earth.
The world is already experiencing unpleasant weather conditions and natural disasters such as the current Cyclone Idai disaster which killed thousands of people in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi while destroying properties.
In other jurisdictions, climate change has affected weather pertains leading to erratic rainfall which has resulted in massive droughts.
In Zimbabwe, there is also the issue of littering and unsustainable exploitation of wetlands in and around the cities which has gone on to affected availability and quality of water.
The government local authorities are currently working on reclaiming wetlands that had been parcelled out for housing development during the time of the previous government
President Mnangagwa has already set the tone for his government in terms of environmental issues by launching the monthly clean-up exercise which has already gained support from both the public and private sector.
