Mupfumira applauds conservation efforts

ENVIRONMENT, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Prisca Mupfumira has toured the lower Zambezi area in a bid to step up and support anti-poaching efforts.

Minister Mupfumira applauded conservation efforts being done by the Chirundu, Mana Pools and ZimParks on the lower Zambezi area.

She also took advantage of the tour to officiate at the official opening of the Zivaru Reaction Camp, a state of the art anti-poaching station before proceeding to Kariba to officially handover houses and two anti-poaching vehicles for rangers who are working in the area.

The minister’s delegation is composed of directors from the ministry and officials from Zimparks and Zimbabwe Tourism Authority.

Poaching has been a topical issue in the tourism sector, as the country has lost some of its most famed animals such as Cecil the Lion, hundreds of elephants and various small animals to poaching activities.

In his 2019 budget Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube has availed funds meant to capacitate institutions that protect wildlife in the country.
