Zim's cricket venues have no digital scoreboards

The Ministry of Sport, and Recreation informed the Parliamentary Sports Committee that cricket infrastructure used by Zimbabwe Cricket included primary venues such as Harare Sports Club and Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo and were fully operational for international matches.

The Committee heard that these venues still lacked some features such as digital scoreboards, larger seating capacities and improved player amenities. Zimbabwe Cricket stated that ongoing projects were focused on modernizing facilities with the installation of floodlights and development of indoor training centres. The Committee was briefed that a multipurpose sports complex was under construction in Victoria Falls, and a new pitch was being developed in Mutare.

These developments were supported by ICC grants for the hosting of the 2026 Under 19 Cricket World Cup and the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup tournament. Zimbabwe Cricket stated that ICC grants played a pivotal role in funding upgrades at Harare Sports Club (HSC), including the installation of floodlights for night matches, increasing seating capacity and modernizing VIP areas.

The Committee also heard from Zimbabwe Cricket that efforts were underway to extend professional infrastructure into previously underserved regions. In this context, these projects were bolstered by grassroots initiatives like the “Kumusha/Ekhaya” programme, which focuses on empowering rural communities and discovering talent at the grassroot level.
